My wife refuses to use the new HE washers. Per our experience, they're prone to foul smell, they don't get your clothes clean compared to the old washers and they are hard on clothes. The new washers don't have a soak feature as well. The repair people also claimed that the new washers only last 5 years. We did our research and found exactly what we were looking for - SPEEDQUEEN! We've been using it for a couple of months with outstanding results. We don't have any complaints about this machine. BTW...you can control the water level over and above the automatic settings (EPA required) by pressing down on the reset button. You can stop the washer mid-cycle and add clothes...try that with a new front load washer! You can soak your clothes to your hearts content. One thing to be aware of...they are not available at the mega stores. You have to find a local dealer. We were happy to support a small local business and buy an American product. Speedqueen has the best warranty on the market and unmatched quality of construction. We would have gladly paid double the price for this machine!
